Foxboro teen queen JoJo is jetting to the East Coast today, knowing that her beloved Boston Celtics [team stats] will host two playoff games at the Garden during her stay. And if that wasn’t exciting enough, Nordstrom has finally opened at the South Shore Plaza.
“I heard that! That is soooo great,” said the pop princess known at home as Joanna Levesque. “I would always stop at the South Shore Plaza on my way from Foxboro to Boston. That is very good news.”
In between getting some retail therapy, maybe cheering on the Celts against LeBron and playing club dates at Shrine at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods and The Estate, her BFF is graduating from Berklee College of Music on Saturday.
“I’m so proud of her,” JoJo said. “So, I guess you can see I’m pretty excited to come home to play these two dates.”
Speaking of college, JoJo, who got accepted at Northeastern University last fall, but deferred for a year to work on her new album, “All I Want Is Everything,” said she still has “every intention” of getting her degree there.
“It’s a great school and it has a great program in cultural anthropology,” said the singer. “It’s a good fit for me. I know I have to make a decision very shortly.”
Last fall, JoJo was finally let out of her contract with her record company which, she claimed in a lawsuit, wouldn’t allow her make a new album. Hence, her decision to skip her freshman year in favor of making some money for tuition!
So, is “All I Want Is Everything” your new mantra?
“It is decidedly a naive statement,” she laughed. “I went into the process (of recording a new album) feeling I can do everything at once, but the lesson I learned is you really can’t. Spreading yourself too thin is not the best plan. There’s a time and place to satisfy all your dreams. Right now, for me, it’s pursuing my music.”
JoJo said her hosting gigs at Shrine on Friday and the next night at The Estate will be her first stateside club gigs.
“I did one in the Phillipines recently and it was really fun, but I’ve never hosted before,” she said. “My friend, DJ Skeet Skeet, whose real name is Trevor, will be with me spinning. I’ll sing a couple of songs, but I usually work with a band, so it will be all new to me. I’ll let the energy of the room take over, I guess.”
